If memory serves me the fuel pump doesn't have a check ball, but rather two small plungers that act as th valves. They sit above the diaphram, and one acts as a valve for the fuel being sucked in, the other for the fuel being pumped out. When I redid mine I had to get two good plungers out of a pump off a (cough)deere because nobody makes em like the original ones anymore. I had the smae problem, The fuel would be pushed part way up, than leak back down past the the plungers till it was balanced with the amount of fuel in the tank. PS if you do need new plungers I wouldn't recommend the replacements that come with the kit from thefordsonhouse, I could not get them to fit, let alone seal.
