Did you check for spark at spark plugs? You may have a carburetor problem but its normal for unburned fuel to drip from carburetor when engine is run for a short time and shut off or cranked. When you had fuel line loose there was probably still fuel in carburetor bowl and it was sucked up into manifold when cranking and droped back into the suction side of carburetor when you stoped cranking. If it died like the switch was turned off it may have quit fireing.
