I put a new thermostat in my H a couple weeks ago. The old one was totally corroded almost to nothing left. The aftermarket gauge came up to about 165 with the new thermostat, but then the next day the gauge will hardly move, but I felt the side of the head and it is nice and toasty, so I guess the gauge probably gave up the ghost. You might check your gauge also.
