Hal: Jimmy is right about getting fuel, now having said that and having owned a 560D for 17 years and 11,000 hours, I can tell you I have had the same experience as you, not often but 3-4 times. I just hooked either 300, 656 or 1066 out front and towed it in 4th gear, hi TA with clutch out until it started firing and running smooth. Set your throttle about PTO speed and tow it very close to same speed as 4th at that throttle setting. Don't tow it over speed, best to be a bit under. I have towed my 560 close to half mile, before it started firing. Don't ask me why, I've never figured it out. Each time I did that, after very next shutdown, it fired right up again and never gave anymore problems until next time which was probably 2-3 years later. I've asked many an expert, including IH regional service reps, and still no answer. All they ever told me is I shouldn't have towed it like that to start it. Well guess what, those experts didn't have cows to feed and milk, in other words it didn't affect their cash flow one damn bit. Furthermore, towing the 560 didn't hurt my cash flow one damn bit. I farmed for many years, and my highest net yearly income came from the years the 560 and 656 diesels were my main source of power.

Quite, actually. As a matter of fact, some of the technology experimented with over 40 years ago makes today's tractor technology seem absolutely stale by comparison. Experimentation, from the most complex assembly to the most simple and mundane component, is as an integral a part of any farm tractor's development
