Super A wont start...nothing..click, click

All was running fine, turned off tractor..had lunch and pulled starter switch out..pulled rod
Nothing.....click,click, The volt meter on the tractor jumbs a little to Neg side. I replaced the battery with a good 8 volt, 8 volt was on the tractor when I bought it 2 years ago and has run just fine untill yesterday. You folks have been a great help in the past and was hoping you could give some clues? I really appreciate it.
