The armature post should be the one furthest away from the crankcase. Al lot of them have an "A" (it might look like an inverted "V") stamped next to them. The post closer to the crankcase will be the field. To polarize (assuming you have a four-post regulator that mounts below the generator) get a jumper wire. Clip one end to the BAT termial on your regulator. Turn your ignition on, leave tractor off. All you have to do is touch the ither end of the jumper to the GEN termial on the regulator. It should give you a little spark. If it does, you're done.
