I know I haven't posted here before, but I do have to thank everyone for sharing your knowledge with others.

About 6 weeks ago, I purchased my first tractor - a '68 IH 444, and some toys to go with it. Since then I have been regularly checking these forums and archives for info. A new coil (which was toast) and new plugs and wires later and all fluid changes and she starts the first time everytime with no choke and runs like a champ. I've even temporarily fixed the PTO engagement... it kept popping back out under load so I removed the handle, and could rotate the engagement shaft to a point where it stayed working and locked it in place with a pair of vicegrips. (I know, not pretty, but the mower kept running)

Someday soon I'll get a proper garage built for the cars and my new baby, then I can tackle the cosmetic things, reapint, replace leaky gaskets, etc.

Side note, growing up on a small dairy farm the IH 444 was the first tractor I drove by myself. I was 8 years old, and we had to get a little hay put up that was wet before it got rained on again. Bailed it for immediate feeding - too heavy to kick into the wagon so we dropped it on the ground. Dad set the tractor in gear told me to just steer like I always did, and jumped off to load the bales on the trailer. Tractor fanatics start at an early age! Now I have my own 444, which I never thought I would stumble upon.
