If the battery is good the charge rate should taper off to 3 - 5 amps or so as the battery approaches full charge. However as noted below, if the battery has about reached the end of it's life it may indeed charge hard and sweat around the caps even though it is fully charged. Try taking a voltage reading voltmeter across the battery terminals after the engine's run at speed for several minutes. If it shows greater than about 7.4 volts the battery is being overcharged. I'd then be looking for a bad voltage regulator. If the voltage is lower expect the battery to give out before long. Note: If you use a voltmeter use an analog VOM or a GOOD, industrial-grade DVM (like a Fluke...). Reason: Many cheaper DVM's give false readings on old tractor electrical on account of all the transients and "noise" flying around in these systems!
