Hey everyone, I wanted to update on this in case anyone was interested. I won't go through everything I have taken apart and swapped out to find the problem but I also made a lot of electrical tests and narrowed it down to the starter/generator. I pulled the old starter off to take it with me when getting a replacement from a local Cub parts source and it was noticed that the starter pulley was locked solid and wouldn't turn! When I was turning the engine by hand with the breaker on the crank pulley I was on the carb side and couldn't see the starter. Apparently, the belt was slipping around the pulley rather than turning the starter. I'm used to turning against diesel compression so it seemed to turn freely based on what I was used to. It turns a lot more freely now! I installed everything last night and it started raining before I could hook everything up electrically and turn the key to check it out (I'm working outside, there was a puddle in the battery tray and the ground was soaked). I'll be working late at least through wednesday night so it will be a while before I can post the results but it seems pretty likely this is it. I'll let you guys know for sure. thanks for the suggestions.

Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
