Karl: I loaned my Super A to a neighbor for some yard work, showed him how to check the oil level. When I got home that evening my wife informed me the tractor required 3 quarts of oil, or so the neighbor had declared. He gave her quite a lecture on how I should look after my tractor better, and not be running that little engine with one quart of oil. I had my dinner then went to investigate. Set a pail under the petcocks, and drained off 3 quarts of oil. Neighbor could see me out at the tractor, decided the passed on lecture by my wife may not have had enough impact. Over he comes, and tore into me quite viciously about loaning him the tractor so low in oil. I let him go on, finally I said,"Are you done?", then pointed out to him the pail of oil I drained off. Then he tore into me about what a poor system IH used for checking oil, quite a lecture in itself. Finally I said to him, amazing how IH got to be such a popular tractor, good that they didn't sell a lot of them to folks that didn't know how to open a tap. Needless to say, he never came back wanting to borrow a tractor. By the way he did own another brand tractor about the same size, that wouldn't pull his disk.

Experimentation, from the most complex assembly to the most simple and mundane component, is as an integral a part of any farm tractor's development
