Thank you for all the pointers. Those of you that said to check for 'carb plugged/fuel flow' were right on. Rust particles had made their way to the carb because the fuel was being sloshed around the tank for the first time in who knows how long. Disassembled carb, soaked each half in a gallon of carb cleaner and followed up with a can of carb spray and a new gasket set. Added magnets to the sediment bowl, added a big fuel filter after the sediment bowl, and put a magnet on a wire in the fuel tank.
Any favorite ways to clean rust out of a gas tank? I've heard some of the sealers cause more problems than they solve but I have no hard data on that one.
