SMOKE TEST Pin #1 is the exciter current from the diode or resistor,or the idiot light, and from there from the ignition terminal (hot when turned on). If you used a digital meter, it might appear to have zero resistance, especially if set on high ohms range. I would put 12 volts to it as follows: use jumpers with the neg jumper to alternator frame, and positive jumper to a piece of wire with a spade connector on it to go to pin #1. apply porew and if no smoke, I would put it in the circuit. The only thing that could be dammaged is a diode, or resistor (as per the circuit Bob M provided. It is likely OK. JimN
