If you have a regulator, the regulator gets the adjustment. If you have a 3 brush (older H) then the third brush is moved to increase voltage. Voltage regulator adjustment is pretty complex, and is best done with a book on the subject. this is "Delco A" type system with regulator grounding of the field coils.
