If that starter stud/post under the switch is burned n pitted you might get by with a light filing to clean n smooth it up but I agree it sounds like it may need replaced soon or else try n build it back up like Jim was talking about. As always I advise you ro remove, clean n wire brush n reattach each n every battery n starter n ground cable attachment, use 00 gauge cables on 6 volts or 0 or 1 on 12 volts and use a heavy duty battery. It might be time for a shop to check the starter for excess amps maybe from worn bushings or perhaps it needs some brush or commutator work.
