I went through something similar with my M. I put in two new switches in about 6 weeks. Then I noticed when I took out the second one, it was BENT. My M has the foot starter that's the "lever" type, not the earlier type that's a rod going through the lower part of the steering post. When the lever is pushed down, the other end exerts some side-force on the switch. My next switch was made of heavier metal and hasn't bent now in over two years.
