First off i have a 806 diesel and when going down hill the engine will not hold you back as unless you have a Jake Brake on a diesel they do not have the back pressure for the hold back like a gas . Now if it is indeed freewheelen when the T/A lever is pulled back into the low side of the T/A then it will need a new T/A instaleed , Now The T/A was not ment to be used as a means of braken and if used as such you will have a failure of the T/A unit . When the T/A is installed CORRECTLY and every step is done BY THE BOOK a T/A will last a vary long time . IF it does not then either it was not installed correctly the first time or someone is abusen it . Of all the T/A's that i have installed over the 19 years that i had my shop open NOT one has ever failed and some of the guys are shell we say a tad rough on there tractors . The first one that i installed was in 83 on a 1066 and it is still going strong. So it is like this if ya don't know about them then find someone that does and have him check it out as tryen to figure out what is wrong at the other end of the wire is hard . And believe me i do know my IH's Heck even and empty haywagon will shove my 806 down a hill and have to use the brakes to hold it back and here in a few short weeks if ya think and empty haywagon can shove ya wait till ya latch onto a loaded 18 foot silage wagon with 21-26000 lbs shoven ya as the wagons weigh twice what the 806 weighs and i will never ever think of pullen the T/A while going down our hills wih a wagon behind.
