Has anyone rebuilt the pressure regulator/safety valve on an International 240? This is the same hydraulic system used by the 240, 340, 460 etc. I have a 240 Utility with a factory installed Wagner loader, which means the tractor’s hydraulic pump only supplies the power steering and 3 pt hitch. Neither work.
When I disassembled the pressure regulator I found the inner screen/orifice was perfectly intact. (unlike on my 340 where I found the screen totally collapsed and ripped, and the orifice plugged). However while the orifice on the 340 was a drilled hole and therefore easy to tell if it was blocked or not, on the 240 it has a totally different design . . . there"s a sort of insert within an opening that is pinned by a tiny shaft across the threaded orifice. In fact at first I thought there was a piece of metal stuck in the opening. The problem is that I can"t tell if the opening is blocked or not, even after trying to blow thru it. Because the screen is in such good shape, I hate to replace the piece (not to mention the new part costs $54), but I"m not sure how to judge if it"s working correctly, and the orifice size influences the fluid flowrate. Has anyone seen one like this?
My other question is that while it would have been much better to measure the pressure of the hydraulic fluid first to see what the system was doing, I couldn"t figure out how to do that. Can anyone help me with that?
