I agree with Old below, Pull the shifter out first and use a big screw driver to align the rail slots. If they are tough to move, move the rear wheels a bit to take tension off of the gear. Then look at the tip of the shifter. It will be worn down some Have it welded up at the corners (some pics are in the Search here archives under Farmall shifter repair) then it is filed, or grund down to just fit the slots W/O binding.
