How long does the tractor typically sit unused? The problem with paralleling batteries is that the one with slightly higher open terminal voltage will discharge into the lower one. Series battery arrangements don"t have that problem. We had an Isuzu diesel truck here at work with parallel 12V batteries that would sit a month or two at a time on a regular basis and we were always having to jump start it even after replacing the batteries twice. I switched it to two series 6 volt batteries five years ago and haven"t had to jump it once since. Having said that, though, big 12V batteries are a lot more common and easier to find than 6Vs.
