There are several posts about this in the archives if you need more information than I can give you. The fuel gauge is electric, so it is possible that the sending unit in the tank broke or hung up. It is also possible that it is not getting power from the sending unit to the gauge or it has no way of getting back to ground. Lastly, it is also possible that the gauge has simply failed. The oil and alternator lights have their own connectors, wiring, and bulbs, so they will work separately if the gauge is junk. The temperature gauge is a mechanical bourdon tube gauge with ether in a capillary tube. If it doesn't work, the tube has become crimped, has broke, or the gauge is shot. The two gauges are one unit, so if one doesn't work, they will both need to be replaced. Others have replaced them with auxiliary gauges mounted elsewhere, which are considerably cheaper than the original gauge.
