Bernsy: 35 years ago, I was faced with same problem on my Farmall 300, your having with your H. I had some manifold thread damage, cleaned it up with a tap, installed a new black iron pipe, however I could never get it to stay tight.
Finally I took it to a well respected welding shop. They wouldn't use arc welding, did brazing instead. He claimed there was less chance of cracking manifold with brazing. I'm not a welding expert, however I do give this guy top marks, 300 is still going, manifold is still tight.
I also took him a cracked front cast wheel from 300, cracked right in to bearing race. This was evening and he was still in shop, so drunk he could get off 5 gallon pail. He lectured me on allowing rim to be loose, thus breaking the cast. My dad warned me he would do that, said if he's drunk don't argue, just leave it with him. After his lecture he told me to come back in 24 hours the cast wheel would be fixed. I when back in 24 hours, he was still drunk, and the wheel he fixed is still on the 300. He did acr weld the wheel. Bear in mind also, this 300 has probably 25,000 hours on it by now 15,000 of them since the brazing and arc welding repairs.

"Run in the house and get me a...."as I open th
