Terry, When you go to wire that new VR like Bob was talkin, remember theres usually ONLY ONE wire on its Supply terminal, thats the one to the battery/starter (often on starter switch/solenoid big input cable from battery) where it gets its input supply voltage. On the other Load terminal, its the one that wires down to BAT on the VR PLUS it may feed hot battery voltage to loads like lights n ignition switches UNLESS your VR has the extra 4th LOAD terminal and if so, it and NOT the ammeters Load terminal serves that purpose. Id again polarize the genny before you fire her up just in case and be sure the VR has a good ground.
