The stem that goes through the center can be a problem, some are rusted to nothing at the bottom and some break off when you try to remove the nut on the bottom end. Otherwise, they are more or less a mixer, make sure all the holes are open. The float and needle/ seat are available if needed. Adjust the main screw on the top at one and a quarter turns out and the idle screw underneath at a quarter turn out, that should start it with one choke. After that, throttle open and turn the top till it sounds right, idle adjust the bottom. Seems like most times the idle adjustment doesn't change much of anything. I had a four cornered needle the other day that stuck in the seat bore once in a while. Sometimes for float adjustment i will plug the hole in the bottom of the bowl with a washer/bolt/ rubber seal affair and hook the gas line right up to the inlet with the top off. You can adjust the fuel level really well this way, and check the needle/seat and float right then before assembly.
