Bill: Some folks just happen to have more money than brains.
I remember a guy like that in Nova Scotia, he put a 318 Detroit in an IH 600. Every time he pulled it he broke transmission gears. I knew he had a lot of IH parts around, even though he was a bit off beaten track, I thought I'd drive the extra miles, he might just have what I was looking for. every tractor he had around was souped up hp. He'd been banned from pulling, Eastern Canada and New England. Told me about pulling one night on a harness race track. The operator of the sled vowed to stump him. He fired up the ole 318, made one complete loop around the track with the sled operator yelling like hell. That got him banned.
He told me they brought the old 600 home and parked it. 3 years later they decided to fire it up. The 318 over reved as they were noted for, wouldn't shut down, he grabbed an axe and chopped the fuel line. he figured she hit 6,000 rpm before running out of fuel.
