Yep, the one shown in your second image is the mounting bracket (#31077) my 1948 SA has. It is also the one shown in the operators manual I have for the SA. I have also seen this same one on other SA's but dont know the dates of the tractors. The image I used was the one that Keith had of his bracket that was hosted at imageshack. Keith said his SA was a 1948 as well and had an alt on it so I suspected his old mounting bracket was used because it worked fine with just a longer bolt.
As Hugh stated there were minor changes made during the production and I guess this mounting bracket was one of the changes. But I'll stick by what I know and that in 1948 they used the old kind of bracket like on the A. When the change was made I have no idea.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
