I can't figure out why people choose to own real property in locations known to burn over every once in a while. Or why others choose to live below sea level only a dike away from unlimited water. Or why insurance companies write policies on these properties and make these follies possible.
Seems to me that if I had to live in Southern CA, the house would be made of steel, concrete, gypsum, mica, and tile. The cellar would be a 100,000 gallon cistern equipped with a diesel fire pump. The upholstery and bedding would be fashioned from asbestos. Ummm, maybe no on the last one.
