I'll add to Hal's comments that if it seems to turn pretty slow, but still starts, it isn't likely to be the battery. The current flowing to the coil when running is about 3-4 amps. The battery can put this much out for a whole day of operation if it is not restarted repeatedly.
The starter motor, (if the battery was weak enough to cause running issues) when starting the tractor, would lower the voltage to the coil so much that it would not re-start. I think a battery and charging system check is a good plan, but I further believe it needs a good tune-up and valve adjustment. JimN
