To make the switch ya need the range cover for a 56 seires along with all the shifters and linkage . Ya can FIX what ya have for a lot less . Most of the shifting problems stem from the clutch being out of adjustment and the dump vale being out of adjustment. When everything is set the way it is SUPPOSE to be they will shift with two fingers . When ya have to start fighten them to get them out of gear that is when things start to wear and get loose . To fix them start by pulling the cowl off and the floor plate and kick panel and start looking where the slop is . Look closely at the little as i call them CUB CADET tierod ends then on down to the clevis pins and clevis , then on to the range cover and see how bad the top cover is wore as the shifter should not flop around in it's bore that should be snug . If not then you can have a machine shop bore the hole out and make a press in bushing to tighten this up and replave the shifter shaft with a new key and O/RING . BUT keep in mind that that hole in the top cover MUST BE KEPT in the ORG. location . If ya have to pull the top cover this is best done with some help . One must be careful when doing this if the tractor has been updated with the spring loaded park lock . The park lock MUST be blocked in the up possion 3/4 of and inch , Myself i use a half inch bolt and place the head under the linkage . THe side cover on the left side of the tractor must come off so ya can catch all the pices and parts from the rev. shift fork . One does not have to drain the rear end for this if the hyd fluid level is not over full as there should be only about one gallon that will come out when this cover is removed . This is the time that you take a real close look at the rev. shifter shaft for any slop in the little key way and replace that shaft if there is. . While the top cover is off look at the cam and detent plate for ware also look for broken spriging and broken or missing rollers . Ya my want to up grade to the spring loaded park lock if it has not been done as this is a vary wise thing to do and can save your life or someone elses . When ya have everything back together then either howlar or look back in the archive on clutch adjustment and dump valve set .
