Mike, 5.50 is the width of the tire. Width is also directly related to height, however. A properly inflated 5.50-16 tire will be taller than a 5.00-16 tire. A 6.00-16 will in turn be taller than a 5.50-16. Rear size is the same, except for the 14.9-38. This tire is the oddball. It has a taller sidewall than a 15.5 and mounts taller on a 13" rim than a 15.5 does on a 14" rim.
