Ray, The way you discribe the wide front end it sounds like an orginal IHC that came on Early M,H and even F series Farmalls. The tie rods were also ahead of the axle which made them the first thing to hit the tree/post/barn. It is mounted correctly or at least the way it was designed. It sat so far forward to allow for the mounting of equipement large implements under the belly of the tractor. I have seen pictures of beet diggers that took all of the available space. The adapter plate discribed by Jerry actually allowed the front end to be mounted slightly further aft (back for you non nautical types)but it still looks like it is wrong. Check old operating manuals under optional equipement. I have two of these wide fronts one has steel tubing for the cross bar and the other uses cast iron. The value of this wide front is less than the later style but well above a Swartz. Hope this helps Dick.
