Ed: I certainly wouldn't take the transmission apart because of the over filling and possible water in there. Yes, agree water is hard on bearings, however the water oil mix will do little damage. One possible exception if the tractor has been parked for years, and even then water settles on the bottom.
Over the years I worked a lot these old Farmalls that sat outside 8 months of the year. We were always fighting the water in transmission problem. Condensation is a factor, however rain water running down the gear shift lever will put a lot of water in there in just one over night rainfall. Take my own tractors for example, hadn't sat outside in the past 5 years, I know all were very little above the full mark. During my recent move the tractor sat out in two heavy rains, and I see they are each about 1/2 gallon over full now. I will drain them before winter. I couldn't begin to count the time I've found my SA, 130, 300 and 560 filled with water, I even cut the 300 and 560 shift levers off to H-M specs, so they wouldn't collect as much water. That old 300, got to have 25,000 hours on it by now 560 went 11,000 plus and my 130 must have 8-9,000 hours. My SA is very low hour, however none of those tractors have ever had transmissions apart due to water damage.
I think I would fix the oil slinger gear, it doesn't take a lot of idling time for items to get dry up top. This too depends quite a bit on your use. I use my tractor quite bit on stationary pto work. My thoughts if you start plowing snow some night when it's close to -40 up there, you decide to go inside, get a bit of warmth into your body, it's going to be awfully nice to leave the 130 idling.
Ed, I didn't run across anyone heading into Ohio. I guess the folks I know, don't see any bargains stateside, with Canadian dollars. I do see bargains myself, however it would take more money than I'm prepared to spend, buying them all. Way I have it figured, those bargains will filter across in time, and I'm in no rush. Certainly not in enough of a rush to spend 4 hours border time and $50. worth of gas to save $150. I always considered one should be paid lawyer rates for border wait time, either direction.
