I've had the starter checked out at a repair shop, have put new cables on, and wire brushed where the starter attaches to the clutch housing to be sure of a good ground, and with a new well charged 6 volt battery it still just barely turns it over. The engine does have fire crater pistons in it, so I'm thinking the added compression is too much for the six volts. I would prefer to leave it as a six volt system, but also would like for it to crank over better. I have the spare 12 generator, so is the the reason I would like to use it, plus will look more original with it rather than with an alternator. I apreciate everyones help. Would it hurt anything to hook a 12 volt battery to the starter to just see how it turns it over. Will it hurt the 6 volt gen or coil? Thanks again!!
