Jim As one of the posts said, a bracket can be fabricated and bolted to the channel iron frame. The weight hang in front of the axle offering some protection to the front end in the event of a headon with a tree, fencepost, other implement, etc. We use suitcase weights from a newer tractor (IH Farmall 1566). The weights are about 100 lbs. apiece and I use 500 to 600 lbs. The beauty of this setup, while not original for a 40's tractor, is that the weights can be easily removed when not needed. I am a firm believer in only adding enough weight on our new tractors to accomplish the task at hand. When liquid is added to the front tires and front wheel weights are bolted on, removal of the rim and tire because of a flat can be a HEAVY chore. Also, the added front weight is very hard on the pivot points and makes a mechanically steered tractor harder to steer. Ray (medfarm)
