Yes, that is how you remove the pressure plate and disc from the flywheel.
Take out 2 or 3 and find the holes in the pressure plate to put them in that will compress the springs in the plate before you take them all out. If my memory is not too cloudy, I think there are 6 total? (I'm sure somebody will correct me if I have that wrong.) You can get it off without doing this, but you will need to do this to get it back on.
