Your tank lip may be distorted more than it appears. IH had a re-forming tool which was supplied to dealers for the purpose of straightening gas tank lips that got bent down from years of filling the tank from 5 gallon cans resting on the tank opening. If you have a dealer close by you may be able to borrow it. I see one on e-bay once in a while. I know a machinist who has reproduced and improved the tool. He offers them for sale but they are pricey. It would be a good thing for a club to buy and offer to their members.
