There is a planetary gear set that fits between the left final drive and the transaxle. People running rototillers use them. It is shiftable. I saw one go for around $600 at an auction a year and several months ago.
An outside vendor used to make a trencher for the Cub. That implement would need a very deep reduction. They may have used something like a IH Hydro-Creeper that was available with the Super A and decendents. A hydraulic motor was attached to a gear box that slid over the PTO shaft. The main clutch was disengaged and the PTO ran the transmission. There was one of those at the same auction and I think the price was near $500.
I suppose some kind of gear set could go in the torque tube. But one has to wonder if the transmission could take the torque. I managed to break a Cub second gear when I was about 10 years old.
