I agree with Gene Bender - sounds like a bad cable.
I had similar problems with my Super M last Sunday. Turned out that while the cables looked fine, corrosion hidden under the insulation on the ground cable had eaten away almost all the copper near the battery clamp end.
After installing a new ground cable the starter now spins like new.
