First thing before the mag is installed turn it over and with the cap off make sure the rotor lines up with the tower on the cap when it fires. Then when you have #1 on the compression tdc you can install having the rotor pointed to the wire going to #1. Since the drive is a slotted type thing the worst you can be off is 180deg. With the plugs out and using the cramk you can determine if you have installed it correct by turning engine over and watching when it impulses. There is no advancing timing as it will impulse on tdc then when engine runs it will go to 34deg advance nothing in between good luck.
