Here's some quick old Farmall i.d.
1. If the spark plugs are on the opposite side of the engine than the manifold is, its a Regular, F-20, or F-30.
A. If the steering gears are exposed(not enclosed in an oil casing) its a Regular
B. If it has enclosed steering gears and 40 inch wheels, then its an F-20
C. If it has enclosed steering gears and bigger wheels, then its an F-30 (the F-30 is basically just a scaled up vesion of an F-20).
2. If the spark plugs are on the same side of the engine as the manifold, its a F-12, or F-14.
A. If the steering shaft runs parrellel with the top of the hood and gas tank, it's an F-12
B. If the steering shaft is on an upward angle in order to elevate the steering wheel, its an F-14(an F-14 is a new and improved F-12 with a couple more horsepower).
The serial numbers for the Regular, F-20, & F-30 are on an aluminum tag on the tool box above the clutch housing. If this is missing, the number can be found stamped into the frame right under the air cleaner. Don't go by the number on the engine, it is almost never the same as the serial number.
I'm not sur where to find the number on an F-12 or F-14.
