Hello BOBM45: It sounds like a fairly good running MD and I have a lot of time on MD's. I'd be tempted to leave well enough alone if it's just a hobby tractor. The first item I would like to question is the Small puddle of "oil" you say appears under the breather tube. I've seen that on various engines and one time I took a real close look. It turned out to be mostly water with just enough diesel fuel in it to make it seem like all oil. How about checking that on a hot Summer day rather then early Winter such as now? I don't like a lot of blowby either but life ain't perfect when looking at old machines. A diesel needs good pistons and rings to get good compression in order to run good. Yours runs good. Maybe it's excess water vapor from the way you store giving it lots of crankcase condensation. Maybe some rain water running into crankcase? How about blowby after a full day of heavy work? Just thought I'd question the reason for the blowby. Good luck which ever way you go...
