It would work PERFECTLY, until the first time you forget to shut the switch off when shutting the engine down, or it stalled, OR some "blem" came by and played with the switch.
Under ANY of those scenarios, all the smoke will be let out of the generator, and the battery will be drained.
If the old mechanical cutouts are giving you "fits", here's an idea... some of the old Ford hot-rod "flattie" guys gut out their cutouts, and install an alternator diode or two in place of the coil and contacts, then put the cover back on to keep the "Correct Police" happy. END of cutout problems.
Such solid-state cutouts are available commercially from hot-rod outfits.
