If the movement is clockwise and counter clockwise it may be normal, little to no side to side play would be good. I think the shaft listed on this site isn't the one you need for the distributor which I call the rotor shaft. Its not hard to check your unit before deciding what to do. After removing unit at the 2 clamp bolts( note engine and dist position for reinstalling) remove everything down including points. Remove stud with insulator that points and coil wire attaches to. Remove the 2 screws that cap clips are attached to and 1 other screw half way between those 2. lift out point mounting plate. Next there's a weight guard a thin formed metal piece with 2 screws to remove. Warning if screws to long for condenser or point contact mounting were installed or installed in future they will wear metal deform or junk this guard. Remove 2 advance springs and lift out the cam piece. There can be play between it and rotor shaft,check. If not missing there would be a felt in the hollow cam shaft, its suposed to be oiled every so often. Lot don't get lubed.Now you can check the rotor shaft to dist. housing play. To remove rotor shaft from housing the gear on end of shaft has a pin to remove, then shaft can be removed to determine what needs repaired. Thin thrust washers are located at top and bottom of shaft. O ring seal is in drive end of housing. Common problems, weight pins loose on rotor, weight holes elongated, advance hole worn oversize. Not as common, gear wear or loose where pined to shaft, cam lobes bad.After repairs don't forget to grease where plug is in dist housing once in a while. May have forgot something, if needed ask.
