The tractors are DEFINETLY Ms (probably the same one both times). I have been watching that movie for 20 yrs and I rewound and played in slow-mo (zoom on DVD). The engine area from the oil pan to the top of the hood is too tall to be an H. The angle of the steering column is correct for an M also. I don"t remember if it is clear enough to count the grille bars or not. An H looks longer and lower even though both tractors have the same wheel base. I could see it well enough to notice a lot of silver overspray on the tires.
On the flag pole thing, I saw a behind the scenes show about the movie one time. IIRC the pole was plastic with a small hole with mild suction applied to keep the kids tounge stuck.
