CNKS: I know you've always maintained casting date codes are never more than 4 months, 6 months at very most, before the tractor was assembled.
I have recently run across a couple of tractors that have more than 1 year spread between serial number and codes. One has late 53 serial number and all X codes, some as early as March 52, yet every code on the tractor are X, and first half of 52. What is quite unusual is every casting has a code, even items like belt pulley drive, front wheels, pto, etc. Quite often some of those smaller castings don't have date codes. I am satisfied the serial number is original and this is an original tractor. I have not seen the second tractor.
This is not the first time I've been told this, and one guy even suggested he's seen original tractors with casting date codes over two years before the serial number. I'm not declaring this as fact, however would like your comments.
