Tubing only refers to the shape. Structural square, rectangular and round steel is called tubing. It in no way signifies the wall thickness or strength of the steel. Your car frame is made of tubing or channel.
The definition from Wikipedia:
Tubing is a pipe or hollow cylinder for the conveyance of fluids (liquids or gases). The terms 'pipe' and 'tubing' are almost interchangeable, although minor distinctions exist (generally, "tubing" implies tighter engineering requirements than "pipe").
