At a central California auction (San Joaquin valley), I saw an immaculate IH 1486 go for $6000 last year. This tractor had usable duals and a cab. The front end was tight. I bought a rough IH 1566 from a neighbor for $3500 with a rebuilt engine and rearend. Since I only use this tractor on 200 to 250 acres per year for open land grain, the total hours per year used is about 100 hours. A JD 4440 will sell for $9000 to $15000. I was at a farm auction yesterday in Madera, CA and saw a 4440 sell for $13500. As one of the posts suggested, the bigger and newer IH do not have any collector value and their age detracts from the value. While I am not IH or Farmall red in color (my last new tractor was an '98 80 HP John Deere), the 66 and 86 series tractors are everybit as useful and functional as the GREEN tractors at 50 to 75% of an equivalent JD. Sorry for being so long winded. This is probably more than you care to know. Ray (medfarm)

A copse of wildbreaking silver birch and oak trees surround the top si
