I Australia we use (used) a different terminology for the fuels that have been discussed. I hope Redfan can help me out here!.. Early stationary engines were called 'oil' engines and basically ran on a poor quality kerosene, I think this is what you call distilate. Some tractors such as the Lanz Bulldog ran on 'crude oil', I beleive this to be an even poorer quality (and cheaper)kero. Cars, trucks and small engines ran on 'petrol', what you call gasolene. Tractors and engines that required more power (but also economy) used 'Power Kerosene'. By the mid fifties power kero was phased out and Dieselene (diesel) is now used for all heavy duty tractors and trucks. HR and I have discussed this before and I think most points have been covered in previous posts. Shell Australia recommends 75% Kerosene, 25% Unleaded gas to approximate the Power Kerosene they produced in the 50s and 60s. I hope this is of interest. Greg.
