If the history is unknown or if you suspect water in the lines, I'd recommend changing out the fluid, removing the reservoir cover (the big casting the seat bolts to) and cleaning the filter screen. Good time to disconnect and blow out all the lines, too. When you start it up again, just use a little air pressure (about 5 psi) into the reservoir vent to get it to prime.
One caution, the reservoir cover, though not that awful heavy, is cumbersome to lift, and the screen mounts to it and hangs down so that you shouldn't sit it on it's bottom edge. Probably best to use a hoist of some sort to remove it.
