I'll be like everyone except John M and assume he meant Farmall M.
Now he said the spider gears in the diff were welded. Those should be the same between the two tractors. What might be a different ratio are the ring and pinion gears. Those should be removable from the welded-up diff and installed on the diff out of the M, I believe. In fact it's probably easiest and best to transfer the ring and pinion gears if possible.
With the ring and pinion out of the M, you'll have a really slow W6, maybe, unless they made up for the wheel size difference by using larger bull pinions and smaller bull gears. The only way to tell for sure is to count the teeth on each of the ring gears and pinions.
