Thanks John, been reading all the back pages to find out all I can about the M I bought this last summer and found a post talking about coils. Even though you didnt think the poster would need all the info you posted, it sure helped me. I found out I had a ballast resistor on the tractor as well as a 12 volt coil, that explained why that bugger didnt want to start unless the battery was fresh charged (I think the alt is bad so I swap it out once in a while). It was -8 a few days ago and with the ballast resistor bypassed, it started just fine. Now I just gotta fine tune the carb but wanted to thank you for posting the info that you didnt think would be needed because it sure was helpful...
